Advice for New Teachers

Posted by:

The classroom is at once a microcosm of the world and a wonderful place. Anything can happen. Always treat your classroom as a magical space. Because it is.

Kids go from a fundamental lack of understanding to a glimmer of comprehension (love that first appearance of new learning on a child’s face; it’s unforgettable) to an inability to understand they ever had a problem in the first place.

You will laugh (a lot); you will cry (no doubt it will seem too much); you will be joyful, melancholy, content, discouraged, and many more emotions daily. Remember, the highs aren’t as good as they feel; the lows not as bad. Make this your watch words: This, too, will pass.

You will get angry at students, parents, other teachers, and administrators. Don’t live with your anger. Face it; deal with it; move on. Life’s too short to hold grudges.
